Gal sizzles at Doomben

Queensland based Sizzling Gal proved to be an impressive winner in Brisbane on Saturday, finishing over two lengths clear of her nearest rival in a $85,000 Class 6 event over 1600m on the Doomben program.

A 5-year-old daughter of Riverdene Stud resident stallion Sizzling, Sizzling Gal turned into the straight towards the tail of the 12 horse field before delivering a  withering finishing burst down the centre of the track to run out a clear cut winner.

Sizzling Gal is trained at the Sunshine Coast by Liam Birchley and was posting her sixth career win at distances ranging from 1100-to-1600m. She took her earnings to $220,628 with a winner’s cheque of $48,800.

Sizzling is sire of Sizzling Gal

Notably, Sizzling Gal has recorded all but one of her six successes on a rain affected track and Birchley stated that Saturday’s Soft 7 rating suited the mare perfectly.

Following the victory the stable stated on Social Media: “Sizzling Gal relished the soft conditions at Doomben today, winning in extremely dominant fashion. A stable favourite with us all, it was fantastic to see her win again. Congratulations to all connections.

Notably, Sizzling Gal is a maternal grand-daughter of Easy Rocking, a noted wet-track performer and sire of wet-track performers.

Sizzling Gal was bred by Eureka Cambooya Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, Queensland, and hails from the same family of Birchley’s multiple stakes winner Pepperwood, a talented son of Easy Rocking.

The Brisbane metropolitan success of Sizzling Gal came just a few weeks after the Sydney metropolitan win of Herb, also by Sizzling, in a $120,000 Midway at Rosehill in late July.
